Devlog 2: Skills
Today I will talk about the skill system in the game, I will go over each skill one by one and how they work.
At the start of the game there will be a pseudo-random system to determine each level of a skill while some bias is given to some skills over others, there are 8 skills in the game , Lets go through each one, one by one.
The first skill is Intelligence:
Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings
Intelligence is mainly gained by crafting items, for now your intelligence will tell you if you have good hygiene or not. I will discuss that when we get to the medical skills devlog, having this option and high speech skill can also unlock new dislodge options
The second skill is Speech
The tongue of a righteous person is pure silver. The hearts of wicked people are worthless.
Leveling up the skill is probably the easiest for you to do, all you have to do is make a choice in dislodge, this is more of a passive skill than active, later in the game you should be able to talk your way out of things. This can also pair up with other skills to unlock more dislodge options. So go ahead talk to people, play the game!
The next skill is Strength
Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.
You need to be strong AND smart in order to aim straight. Your going to go through hell so the more combat encounters you get into the stronger this skill will be, although please note this game isn't a combat focused game its more about choice and choosing to do the right thing at the right time. Any time there is a quick time event, this skill will level up.
The next skill up is luck
Luck can only get you so far
Any time you roll good in a rng roll this skill goes up or if you just make a good decision in general it can go up too, it can affect some things that happen in game and alter a life or death situation for you. I don't want to make the game purely about rolls or luck so there won't be much of this, it will be more about making the right choices and the right time
The next skill up is speed
Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.
If you upgrade this skill you can get more time on quick time events. I am not sure if there will be much in the first chapter which is being released sometime in the future (don't expect much). This skill is made by making decisions fast. The faster you do a quick time event the better it gets. once you upgrade this skill enough you can get an extra 100 seconds to your timer. You can take all the time in the world deciding things if you level this skill up.
Next skill is medical
The art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while nature cures the disease
In this case you won't be laughing you will be dying, there are many things you can do to level this skill up the easiest way of doing this is by using an item from a first aid kit and talking to people, leveling up this skill is crucial if you want to interact with the healing and get any meaningful information, it also is needed to understand how to cure and treat certain injuries.
The next skill is Pain Tolerance
Where there is no struggle, there is no strength
The more damage you take the more pain resistance you gain, so if you get hurt a lot you will take less damage, you will still take damage just considerably less than you would have if you got hurt before, so go ahead get hurt. Just don't die
Now for the final skill Mental Resilience
Strong minds suffer without complaining; weak minds complain without suffering
The better this skill is the less of a sanity hit you will take when you lose sanity. I will go into sanity when I go over the medical interface of the game.
